This weekend Kanin mountain will again host a colorful international field of riders who made it on the riders list of the 5th Freeride Battle. Since this year’s edition also brings points for the Freeride World Qualifier ranking there were more entries than ever. From 247 entries the judges and organizers put together a list of 77 names who will enter the Friday qualification run on Kanin.

Riders will be representing 17 countries. Apart from Europeans there are riders from Argentina, Australia and USA on the list. As usually male skiers represent the majority with 45 riders, followed by male snowboarders (16), female skiers (9) and female snowboarders (7).

Also on the list are a number of previous Freeride Battle winners: the 2008 and 2009 snowboard winner Niklas Hollsten from Finland, the Slovenian winners from 2007 Matevž Maček (board) and Jani Pogačar (ski), last year’s winner or female snowboard class Marlies Nindl of Austria and men’s ski winner from two years ago, the Slovenian ski cross Olympian Filip Flisar.

The fifth edition of Freeride Battle will take place on Slovenian side of Kanin ski area that connects Slovenia and Italy. To announce the competition site, organizer and safety experts will visit the possible locations on Wednesday or Thursday.
